Making Furniture Eco-Friendly

Creating Eco-Friendly Furniture

Our Holistic Sustainability Practices

The furniture industry is infamous for exploiting forests throughout the world for the sake of profit. At World Interiors, we strive to go against the grain for the greater good. Our overall mission is to create furniture for a better future - a future where our air is clean and our forests have recovered from centuries of exploitation. Making this dream a reality requires more than just using eco-friendly materials, it also means giving back directly to the environment.

BUILDING FURNITURE - THE RIGHT WAY

SUSTAINABLY-SOURCED MATERIALS

We primarily use sustainably sourced - Mango woodAcacia wood, and reclaimed Teak wood in our furniture collections . While most of our wood is plantation-grown, we also recycle old-growth wood. We do this to ensure that the wood harvested from trees who've taken centuries to mature is used to its fullest potential.

We also make use of recycled cast iron, rather than iron straight from a mine, to minimize our carbon footprint. Recast iron is rated to be just as strong while mitigating the release of toxic gases and contaminated water into aquifers that occurs as a by-product of exploitative mining.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PROCESSES

We pride ourselves on creating a furniture building process that leaves a minimal effect on the environment--using tried-and-true waste reducing techniques such as plank construction and our special low VOC, water-based finishing process.

GIVING BACK TO THE GLOBAL ECOSYSTEM

We believe that building a greener future goes beyond just offering sustainable furniture - it requires direct action in the environment. That's why we participate in and lead initiatives to replenish the environment that has been depleted for decades.

THE MANGO FOUNDATION

The Mango Foundation was founded in 2008 by our partner company, Home Trends & Design. The main goal behind this organization: one tree planted for every table sold. Since HTD uses plantation grown wood, the trees we plant help restore ecosystems in central Texas and in India to ensure a thriving environment for future natural growth. We're thankful for our non-profit partner TreeFolks for allowing us additional opportunities to make a positive impact on the environment.

THE SUSTAINABLE FURNISHINGS COUNCIL

THE SUSTAINABLE FURNISHINGS COUNCIL

The mission of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) is an organization founded to help companies reduce their environmental footprints as they grow, and to help consumers find healthy furnishings.

Companies that are members must meet certain requirements such as:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Sustainably Sourced Materials
  • Sharing the Wealth & Paying Living Wages
  • Minimized Use of Toxic Chemicals

We're proud to be a founding member of the SFC and continually take steps to further greenify our processes.
